About Katherine

I’m a Southerner raised in the dark forests of West Germany. I live in New York these days. I am blessed with the most wonderful children, it’s almost not fair. Working on cloning them, I’ll let you know how it goes. I enjoy friends with food in that order, and I cannot imagine life without music and art.

I’ve had the great joy of working on stories with Jess Walter, Rumaan Alam, Garth Greenwell, Katia Mitkova, Fatima Bhutto, and many other talented contemporaries. But perhaps I am most inspired by David Foster Wallace, John le Carré, and Briony Tallis. Every story is a love story.

I collect French perfume and faded photographs, and find a moving beauty in the emptiness of Ross Penhall’s paintings. I love detours, red vines and Tuscan sunsets, the scent of roses at dawn, stem winding discussions about space and time, and Roger Federer. I have a soft spot—more like a soul deep bruise—for Médecins Sans Frontières (Doctors Without Borders). Check them out.
